America the Pill Box

I wish I could change the dependency people have on pills.

Have a a cramp? There's a pill for that. Have a headache? There's a pill for that. Have erectile dysfunction? There's a pill for that. Have heartburn? There's a pill for that. Have a fever? There's a pill for that. Have depression from all the pills we take? There's a pill for that! Can't sleep from that pill? There's a pill for that!

Did you know that your body having a fever is good thing? It's fighting something off, killing the germs that are making you sick. Did you know that if you have lower back pain it can directly effect your sexual performance and reproductive system? It can also be the cause of your digestion problems. Did you know that vomiting when your sick is okay? No, it's not pleasant, but your body is getting something TOXIC out. Stay hydrated and push through, don't take a pill.

Taking pills does not solve anything, instead is masks the problem, and could give you more. Why not find out what the CAUSE of the problem is, and treat it in a healthy, natural way?

I understand medicine is there for a reason, but it should not be everyone first solution for everything. Take a moment to listen to your body, and be good to your body. Unlike your car or iPhone, or what ever material thing you love, you can't replace it, you only get one. When your body is done, you're done. So your health and wellness should be your number one focus, nothing else matters if you don't have your health.

It's just like everyone always said, and yet, doesn't always listen to: Drugs. Drugs are bad. Don't do drugs.

I'm Lucy of all the World

Lately, I've been lost. Searching for opportunities that aren't there, looking in all different directions so as not to focus on one thing. Trying to restore balance to myself after the last wind-whirl of a year. Well, I've figured it out. I know the job I want that will keep me completely balanced in all sides of my life. Maybe it would be better to say that I know what I want to be able to do in that job, or with that job because I don't know a job that would allow me to be have all these things.
Jobs... it is just me or do they tend to limit people?
Anyway, this is what I desire, and I hope to one day to claim it as my very own career.

My desires:
I desire to live a long, happy life with my inspiring family, I don't feel this needs explaining. Derek really is my best friend and being loved by my boys is my life's greatest accomplishments. I desire to travel, and not in the way the corporate world travels. I want to travel and get lost in the culture. I desire to write, and not just a blog. I want to write books. My parents always said that I should do amazing things with my hands. I imagine that is why they suffered through the way I would try one instrument, then another, and another, and get no where. I desire to photograph, I want to not just document moments but to capture them, freeze them and transport them to into another moment in a different person's life. I desire to help people. I've always been a "giver" or "doer", I think that is something you are or you aren't. It's something I love about myself, and I want to give to so many people, not just my family and friends. I desire to paint, draw, sew and create,  someone once said, "Take away my pencil and paintbrush and you will see just how crazy I truly am..." That sums me up, from still life's to the beautiful human figure; "the world just gets quite with a paintbrush in my hand"(The Notebook). I desire to be healthy; to function fully, physically, emotionally and mentally. I desire to live by the ocean. To run on the beach to get tossed in the white water of the waves. To say to myself, "To surf today, or to not surf today? That is the question." With the answer always being, "To surf!" I desire to have dogs. Hair everywhere, I don't care, sweet souls to follow me around, run with me, play with me and keep me young. I desire to have money. I know you aren't suppose to say that out loud, but I do, I want to be wealthy. I have lived many years on strict budgets, which is okay, but I don't want to have to worry about money. I'm not the one to want lavish things, and ridiculous cars, but I do want to be financially secure. I want to be able to provide for, and give to my family, friends and those who need it. I desire to be around family. I don't feel this contradicts my desire to travel, and living in Australia, this is something that I learned is very important to me. They keep me grounded, real, and honest. I desire to experience music. There is something about hearing the lyrics roll off the tongue of singer and into your ears, the energy, the moment that is being shared with a thousand other people. There are not many experiences like that.

Questions:
If I know who I am and where I want to go, why do I feel so helplessly lost? Where do I go from here? Time to take action, but in which direction? Where does one start?

Feeling like Lucy has come on slowly, but now it's strong and starting to be crippling. I think part of the crippling feeling is thinking that I should have it all figured out by now, shouldn't I? I'm 28 and still working on that age old, haunting question, "What do you want to be when you grow up?"
For once I just want someone to listen to my answer,
 I want to be ME.
I think I'm going to have to create my own job at some point...

When I grow up I want to be me.

Lucy, by Lindsay Mac

"Lucy walks down the avenue; she waits for the subway and reads the news.
It tells of conflict, miracle, danger and strife, Lucy sighs, this has become her life.
The train arrives and Lucy’s cloud is clear, a packed car awaits with it’s usual city sneers. She nudges in and gets squeezed against the door, but the train rumbles on as she flips to page four.

Lucy remembers her dreams of sailing the ocean’s blue waters with the spice of India passing through the Straight of Gibraltar, the shores of Labrador are just around the other bend and the Cape of Good Hope thinks that she’s be back again.

Her briefcase sags and her stockings do too. She never liked to wear them like the other girls do. And as the train drops her off garbage swirls around her feet, she thinks to herself, “Is this really me, hey?”

Lucy remembers her dreams of sailing the ocean’s blue waters with the spice of India passing through the Straight of Gibraltar, the shores of Labrador are just around the other bend and the Cape of Good Hope thinks that she’s be back again.

I’m Lucy! I’m Lucy! I’m Lucy of all the world!

And if you want to hear a tale, about the way I used to be, just sit back, and take off your hat, and hold on tight, and let’s go.  Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go, let’s go.

Lucy gave her notice late last week; her boss was surprised to say the very least. She said the King of Tonga was awaiting for her to arrive, and with the weather report, it’d be a very long ride.

Lucy remembers her dreams of sailing the ocean’s blue waters with the spice of India passing through the Straight of Gibraltar, the shores of Labrador are just around the other bend and the Cape of Good Hope thinks that she’s be back again.

Oh, oh back again. Oh, oh back again."

Where is God??

Written: Saturday, 9-18-10

After a lovely day today spent with [as Ian would say] the raddest people, we had a very interesting conversation with Landon.
Driving home Landon asked Derek and I, "Guys? Where is God?" We explained to Landon that we believe God is everywhere and in everything, including people. There was a long talk about the movie the Prince of Eygpt, which he kept calling "The Prince of Reject" followed by a pause. His mind was really going, and here is a bit of what was said on the journey home...

Landon: "Derek, can God be like a tornado?"
Derek: "Sure."
Landon: "So, God is like a tornado in your body? ...Like, when you adjust people is that like adjusting God ... because he's inside of your bones and the tornado goes out."
We talked about the connection between God, our bodies and Chiropractic. We then talked about God as a feeling or emotion, too. Landon and Derek compared it to seeing dolphins in Fiji. After about 10 minutes of more questions and answers we all and sat quietly, waiting for the next question.

Landon: "Guys? But...is God in BUGS??"
Me: "Yeah. Even in bugs Bubba."
Derek: "He's even in things you don't really like, like bugs and snakes."
Landon (after a long pause, IN A PANIC): "Mom! Sometimes I step on ants on the sidewalk, so really sometimes I'm stepping on GOD?!?!"
Derek and I laughed quietly, and continued on with the conversation making sure to tell him that anytime he had questions about God, he could ask us. Kids really are amazing.

100 Good Lessons in 5 Years

1. When you have had a runny nose and chapped lips for 3 days, don't Nair your mustache- it burns like hell! AND everyone you meet might wonder if there is a new strand of herpes that you're trying out.

2. In figuring out what you want in life, it's just as important to figure out what you don't want.

3. The hardest thing I have ever had to do, still, is watch Landon scream and cry while having his chin stitched up.

4. Animals really do attack. It's not funny when it's you they are attacking- it's frighting and can leave you truly traumatized.

5. If you can do these two things, you can do anything; give natural child birth and grow your hair out.

6. Just because everyone (including yourself) thinks the grass is greener doesn't always mean it is. But if you work hard enough on the grass you already have, it can be the greenest of greens.

7. Playing Legos till 1AM with the love of you life never goes out of style.

8. Always work on a few projects at a time; you may feel overwhelmed at times, but you'll never feel bored.

9. First, remove gas nozzle from the car THEN drive away.

10. The Internet is an amazing tool for creating anything; web pages, business cards, relationships.

11. Love at first sight isn't just in Fairy Tales.

12. Landon can sit at a table for 3 hours in protest before he eats a pea.

13. When your best friend suffers, you suffer, but hold the confidence that she lacks. Knowing that she'll make it, all you can do is be there to help her if she stumbles.

14. Everything is more expensive in Australia, and when you are living over here the USD doesn't matter, bc you aren't making it.

15. I am a Facebook addict, and really, I don't care what you think about it.

16. Sometimes you HAVE to swim in REALLY cold water.

17. Blood IS thicker than water, but love can turn water to blood.

18. If you stop learning and growing, you stop living.

19. Missing your friends and family can be physically painful.

20. A dishwasher is an amazing appliance (which I hope to one day have again).

21. Derek likes to take things apart, and that curiosity is something I hope he never loses, it's something I adore.

22. With that being said, a working dryer is also an amazing appliance I hope to have again- soon.

23. Line dried clothes are not light and fresh, they are stiff, wrinkly and if they fail to dry in a day, they smell like ass.

24. I love Derek's "cloth sandal shoes".

25. A child's innocence helps to keep the fear at bay.

26. Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers is my favorite band of all time- on album and live.

27. The word "booty" is hysterical to Landon.

28. Road trips are still fun.

29. Film is amazing and underrated.

30. I have to be near water, I go crazy being too far from it.

31. The ocean heals.

32. No one really NEEDS a microwave; I hope I never own one again.

33. I now understand the phrase "running around like a chicken with it's head cut off." I had no idea that they actually do that when you chop off their heads, now I do.

34. I am still a 'Daddy's Girl'.

35. College was not as painful as I made it out to be when I was 18; I just wasn't ready for it.

36. I am meant to be a ChiropracTOR, it's my purpose and passion.

37. Timing really is everything, so you can't dwell on the time you lost and you have to use the time you have left.

38. It cost $289 to gama-radiate a $40 wooden drum from Ghana just so we can have it in our home without the skin on.

39. My brothers are inspiring.

40. Sometimes the perfect weekends only cost you enough money for food and gas.

41. The sweet question, "Will you make me breakfast?" is horribly annoying if asked more than once any day of the week at 5AM.

42. A tick in Australia can also mean "check". So when your child comes home telling you he "got 2 ticks at school today" don't freak out looking for the little parasites.

43. Grey's Anatomy reruns still make me cry.

44. Don't think that you can just go right into sleeping on a new contour pillow every night, if you're like me you'll have an 'unexplained' migraine for two days straight. They have to be eased into slowly.

45. Landon HATES ice packs.

46. I am on Team Edward.

47. My Mom is pretty amazing; she has taken more crap than anyone I know, and still continues to dish pure love back out. Thank you Mom.

48. I learned more about myself and art from Miami Dade in 2 years then I ever thought imaginable. Don't knock a school just because it's a "college" and not a "university." I paid less for an amazing education.

49. I am forever grateful to all my professors- the ones that gave a damn.

50. No one can pull off a beard like Derek Gallant.

51. Spell check is a blessing and a curse, but who needs it anyway when I have Derek.

52. When Landon tells me I look beautiful I usually have to hold back tears.

53. You can't unhurt the people you have hurt, you can only do your best to help repair the damage. That takes time.

54. When your heart is broken sometimes the "moving forward" part is harder than the "moving on" part.

55. It's important to be there cheering on your children even if they are in last place.

56. It's okay to stop, rewind and replay HIMYM ten times if it keeps you laughing till you cry.

57. I can cook a Christmas and Thanksgiving dinner.

58. I don't have a doppelganger.

59. The world is made up of lights/darks and lines/shapes.

60. Sleeping squished between Landon and Derek, though uncomfortable, is perfect.

61. Watching one of your best friends grow into being a Mommy is so exciting.

62. Just because you have your stuff with you doesn't make the house your "home".

63. When in doubt- follow the traffic.

64. Whatever you're going through- you're not the first to experience it. Chances are, there is even a song about it.

65. The power that makes the body, heals the body. TRUST that.

66. Living in a small town has it's benefits. For instance, you'll NEVER get the guys at Blockbuster to give you an extension on movie you rented on Tuesday till Sunday with no fee and no extra charges even though they have 50 other copies of it. In addition, you wouldn't be able to rent 4 good movies for a week at a total of $8.

67. We live in a beautiful world.

68. Sometimes your parents need you to be the parent, and tell them what may be good for them whether they want to hear it or not. And when that time comes, it's hard and it sucks, but it's necessary.

69. Long distance relationships can work if there is trust, respect, humor and a light at the end of the tunnel. Also, skype and texting helps.

70. Johnny Depp is an amazing actor. Yes, this makes it on the list.

71. It's important to give people space.

72. It's not the cold that sucks, it's the wind.

73. Never under estimate the power of a hug.

74. If you are unsure about something, look it up, do the research and make up your own mind. You don't have to believe something is true just because someone says it is.

75. Being a parent is hard. There is nothing beautiful about boogers or temper tantrums.

76. It's always nice to look at your sleeping child at night, it's kind of like a reset button on bad days.

78. Music helps with pain management.

79. Don't dial 1800FEDEX, it's a phone sex line. The number is 1800GOFEDEX.

80. It's true, the squeaky wheel does get the oil, but the wheel that is just too damn squeaky gets replaced.

81. Having a "Murtaugh List" is a good idea, but make sure you've done everything enough times (be that 1 to 100 times) before you say you'll never do it again.

82. Some people you never give up on, though you may step away from them doesn't mean you've thrown in the towel.

83. When it comes to choosing the person you are going to spend the rest of your life with, don't settle and make sure you're "selfish". You have to spend every day with that person- make sure you've found someone that you *want* to do that with, not someone that could just fill a void.

84. Sometimes 'faking it till you make it' doesn't work, so always just try to do your best.

85. Gas appliances are so much better than electric appliances.

86. In a room that has had something extremely sad or traumatic happen in it, a fresh coat of new paint can do wonders.

87. Never stop doing what you love because you have found another thing you love, make time for both. If you don't, you'll end up missing an important part of who you are.

93. When you are on an airplane with your baby and he won't stop crying, remind yourself that everyone on that plane has been or will be one of two things, 1. that crying annoying baby, 2. you- the worried and embarrassed parent. It might not help your baby, it might not help the annoyed passengers, but it will help you.

94. This too shall pass.

95. If your will-power sucks, and you know you are going to give into whatever/whoever is going cause you pain/discomfort/or lower your self-esteem- throw it out, kick them out.

96. As much as I love plants, I am not good at keeping them alive. Succulent plants are the best!

97. Dexter is awesome.

98. Traditions help to keep family close when you are so far. Skype helps too.

99. Learn from everything, it helps build character. Plus, who wants to keep making the same mistakes over and over again.

100. It's nice to reflect on things you've learned...

Random

I found this on my FB page, I filled it out about 9 months ago. Enjoy the post, it's just a little something fun.
25 Random Facts About Me.

1. I can't watch horror movies, movies like Traitor or Blood Diamond, or even the nightly news. Ever since Landon was born, they give me nightmares.

2. My TOP 5 List:
1. Zac Efron
2. Chase Crawford
3.Ryan Reynolds
4.Patrick Dempsy
5. Matthew McConaughey

3. I've watched 3 Mel Gibson movies this week; Braveheart, What Woman Want, and Mad Max. (I don't see what the fuss is about Mad Max and why they made two more to follow.)

4. I have no memories of Guam, only pictures of my birthplace.

5. I am going to have to learn how to drive on the left side of the road in 6 months. And this kind of scares me, so I want to get a beach cruiser bike instead of a car when we move to Australia. Sunshine, exercise, no gas money, no pollution and a cute little basket? Yup, sounds way better than a car to me!

6. My lucky number is three... I am the 3rd of 3 Fulwider children, born Feb. 3rd 198-3.

7. I miss my best friend Carina. She is one of the only people that pretty much every time we get together we laugh till we cry. She makes my heart laugh. I can say anything I want/need to say around her, and I know that she doesn't judge me- only loves me for who I am.

8. When I was pregnant I used to cry during Johnson and Johnson commercials. Especially the one with the catch phrase was, "Who knew the love of you life would be short, bald and fat." It was video of a mom bathing her baby boy in the sink. ...got me every time.

9. I used to drink 3-6 Diet Cokes, and/or 1-2 Tall non-fat, no whip Mochas... a day! I needed them to function, taking care of a baby by yourself is hard enough- and then add being a full time student into the mix. There were days I needed a caffeine drip! Now, you are looking at a girl who drinks Caffeine Free Teas and never any coffee. Sure, I had huge withdrawal migraines for about two weeks, but it's been over a year since I've have any soda and coffee (or relatives to coffee). Yay me!

10. If I don't write things down, I forget to do them. There is painter's tape and a Sharpie in my car for when I am driving and I remember something I need to do. I write it on the tape and stick it to my steering wheel (Derek's side is the dash) and when it's complete, I take it off the steering wheel. You should see my car during finals week.

11. When I was in the hospital with contractions (in the labor process- can't remember all the stages right now) Brandon (one of my big brothers) came in with the video camera and pretended to be Steve Erwin. He spoke in an Australian accent and proceeded to say I was a "shella" about to give birth along with some other things... because of that there is footage of me giving my brother the finger on Landon's birth tape. ...And Brandon was told to leave the room. lol. Looking back it's pretty hysterical, but I didn't find it very funny at the time.

12. I loved high school. Some of the best years of my life. There are random moments when I'm in the car by myself and I'll remember a joke and find myself in a really happy place.
ie:"Oh I, I just died in your arms tonight. It must have been something you saaaaaaaaaaiiiid."

13. This flows with number 12. In high school the guys (Ryan, R2, James, Frankie, and Patrick) and I tried to drink a gallon of milk in an hour. I went with skim and the boys went with whole milk... I think Frankie even drank whole chocolate milk. R2 was the first one to go, and then the rest of them. I ran inside, I was not going to throw up. I think I was the only one that didn't... no one finished their milk and when I went to school Monday morning my parents had circles of dead grass where they they had all thrown up. Hey, at least we weren't all drinking alcohol.

14. First time I drank with my family (Mom, Dad and brothers) was in Texas for my Ryan's Winging. I was 19 or 20. My Mom said I could have one drink. I had a drink... and the boys kept filling it up. The end of the night the three Fulwider kids were the only ones on the dance floor huddled in a circle talking about how much we loved each other. (Ali had a sailors mouth that night...)

15. The two best sounds in the world are of Landon's and Derek's laughter (even better when combined). And here is the thing about Derek's laugh, it's so quiet- it's more like a different way of breathing for him- so when you get a good "Ha" out of him it makes my heart smile. Every now and then with a good tickle a good chuckle will come out in a sentence.

16. Darren I a peer pressured Derek into stealing a chocolate cake from one of Darren's friend's parties. They weren't going to eat it- trust me.

17. I was scuba certified when I was 12.

18. If Landon would have been a girl I would have named him Hayley Mae Fulwider. I wanted him to have the same initials as me. Thank goodness he's a boy and his name is a little less country... Landon Travis. lol. Really he was named after my brothers. Brandon... Landon (close enough...) and Travis is Ryan's middle name. And they are Landon's God Parents... Ryan is the God Father and Brandon is the God Mother. lol.

19. Every two years I get so excited for our Italian family reunions. We are due for one this year! Hopefully all the "cousins" will get it together before we move to Australia in August.

20. Derek and I wish we had a peaceful alarm to wake up to in the morning. The blazing of this one does not make me want to get up and mediate, it makes me grumble. lol. I think we might want to invest in something different.

21. I love my Dad. Even at the age of 26, and after all we've been through I still call him "Daddy" and he still calls me "Little Girl".

22. I learned to cook by trying to get my Mom to eat healthier, and I totally love to do it... if I'm not exhausted.

23. My favorite thing in the world to receive is a hug. Not a lame hug, but a real, good h.u.g.

24. I think love letters and mixed tapes/cds are romantic.

25. I want to change the world and have fun doing it.

Inspirations

As I search for my purpose in life I have come to one conclusion; I am not short on inspiration. There have been many possibilities for what lies ahead, and there still are. I think that's the problem. I know now, at the ripe age of 26, that I really can do and can be ANYTHING. I just need to know where I want to go before I start going at this point.

Lyrics for the song All I Can See by Brendan James (Video above):
I want to walk through this doorway
I want to open my mind
I want to pledge my allegiance to all I can find.
I want a car that will crash through the barriers
to a road no one knows.
I want to feel less control,
want to bend and I want to land far from home.
The revolution of the earth around the sun
is the perfect lesson of how it should be.
So if i cannot learn
to journey and return,
to never rest till I've seen all I can see...
I want to learn a completely new language,
one I don't understand.
I want to help someone lost, someone helpless,
with the strength of my hand.
I want to come to the base of a statue built
before they counted the years,
and there i'll fall with my face in my hands and cry
and feel their hope in my tears.
The revolution of the earth around the sun
is the perfect lesson of how it should be.
So if I cannot learn,
to journey and return,
to never rest till I've seen all I can see...
Train rides and pastures colliding...
colors and customs i've never seen...
I know I, yes I know I,
I know I will stumble
but time is precious my friend.
Those who journey can easily understand,
the more they see the more they'll learn,
the more that they will be.
So this I swear to you, and this I swear to me,
I'll never rest till I've seen all I can see.
No, I'll never rest till I've seen all i can see.
I want to know where the stength of a person lies,
in their past or their future.
Is it in the way that they hurt or they love themselves
or is it all an illusion?
I want to crawl from this skin that i'm painted in...
Body, please let it give.
I want to find the creator of all good things
and ask what it means to live.

There is are two inspirations not yet posted in this blog. Anyone who knows me knows without a doubt, knows who I'm speaking of. Derek and Landon. Landon inspires me to better for his future, and Derek inspires me with his past. He was about 29 when he discovered his calling. There is a comfort in that; knowing that I still have so much more growing to do, and I don't need to jump the gun at this moment to decide. I've got some time. Best of all, I've got support.

I suppose it all goes back to my favorite quote: "Don't ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and then go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive."
I strive for confidence and a strong spiritual understanding of who I am.
I am grateful for all that I am, all that I am becoming.
I want to make a difference.
But what makes me come alive?

... the search continues.

The Landon Show!

“Motherhood has relaxed me in many ways. You learn to deal with crisis. I've become a juggler, I suppose. It's all a big circus, and nobody who knows me believes I can manage, but sometimes I do.” (Jane Seymour) It’s true it’s a big circus and the other morning I saw Landon perform an act I had never seen him perform before. Let’s just start at the beginning… Landon and I got up Friday morning before we both had to get to school and our semi usual routine played out. I took the 15 to 20 minutes to get him dressed before I got in the shower because he seemed pretty awake this morning. Other mornings it’s quite painful when he’s still in sleep mode. After dressing Landon in his usual school attire, blue shirt with his school logo on it, jeans, sock and his “jet shoes”, I got into a shower. About 15 minutes have past and I’m out of the shower, I can hear that he has put his High School Musical 3 CD into the DVD player and walk towards the noise to ask him to turn it down. Here was where the show was… I mean THE show. Landon is dancing around in circles to his favorite song The Boys Are Back- NUDE! Completely and totally nude. He took everything off; his shirt had been thrown next to the couch and I could see the neck was all stretched out from taking the shirt off from the neck down, not up over the arms. That shirt to to be pulled all the off his torso, down his legs and off his feet. He had been on a mission- he clearly really wanted to be naked! I’m standing there in my towel and he still hasn’t noticed I’m there, so I let him know, “Landon?” He stops, and if little boys understood what a curse word was and how even how to use it, I believe the one running through his head was, “Shit.” Like a very embarrassed, semi confused, teen he grabs something to cover up- his blankie! Looks up at me with his tongue out and eyes to the side. Now for those of you who know Landon, you know this face. It’s the “maybe if I stick my tongue out she won’t notice that I am trying not to smile” face. “What are you doing Bubba?” “Ummm… dancing.” At this point he is extra embarrassed, and lays down on the ground to cover himself even more with his blanket. “Okay…” I’m not really sure what to say here, and I am torn between emotions myself- this is hysterical! But, I don’t laugh, I just stay calm. “Okay, well you took all your clothes off… you know that this is the only place you can run around [or dance] naked right?” “Uh huh.” “You can’t do this at school or Publix or Nonni’s. Right?” “Uh huh.” “Okay.” With that I walked away, letting him go back to doing his thing until I was dressed enough to redress him. Needless to say we ran about 20 minutes late that day.

Maybe Landon has it right, maybe we should all dance in the nude a little- in the privacy of our own homes of course.
